James A. Gunnell
Beating steel into submission was what once thought it meant to be a blacksmith. It sounds cool, but don’t believe this anymore. Steel is thing of incredible strength that is capable of incredible beauty and one must know her in order to persuade her to reveal her charms. While it may be possible to force Something from her, it is best to work together with knowledge, love and respect. It is the inexperienced Smith that seeks only to forcibly shape a thing to his will. I believe that the true master has a relationship with the steel and in the end both of them are profoundly changed.
I am blessed to be second generation blacksmith. It is a craft that learned from my father and the sights, sounds, and smells are intimately connected with my earliest memories..
