Jumbo Bottom Barrel Works designs and builds reclaimed furniture from retired wine barrels acquired from local wineries. In a 294-sq-ft woodshop, barrels are disassembled by hand into the basic components; staves, barrels-heads, and hoops. The wooden staves and barrel-heads are prepped by hand scraping and sanding to a smooth finish, while carefully preserving the character of the wood and the natural wine stain. Each piece of furniture is assembled one at a time as the wood must be individually scribed and cut to fit together according to the unique curve of each stave used. Finished products include chairs, tables, benches, porch swings, barstools, bird baths, and also some other smaller wine barrel derived items like cheeseboards, bottle balancers, candle votives.
