Cantilo, Icka

Square of the Bone

Jewelry

I cut each design completely by hand using a traditional jeweler’s saw, then they are fabricated, formed, textured, and patinated. I also use the technique of Champlevé with vitreous glass enamel with sterling silver, rose gold, 14k yellow gold, and nickel free copper sourced from foundries specializing in recycled precious metals. I heavily reference biology and natural sciences such as entomology with textures, patterns and motifs. Because of my quirky sense of humor my work rides the line of peculiarity while also being dainty and precious. I create my jewelry to be highly expressive for a wide range of aesthetics.

Aylward, Michael

Aldie Glassworks

Glass

I have been creating and displaying stained glass artwork for more than 25 years. Trained by craftsman in the Boston area, my work is centered on quality, detail, vibrant colors and creative patterns. Also, have been involved in numerous restoration projects for antique, ecclesiastic and architectural subjects. Have a keen interest in maintaining and showcasing the craft to the public, including teaching classes for others to learn.

Individual and groups are invited to volunteer at the Waterford Fair.

The Waterford Fair is the premier traditional crafts fair and homes tour in the Northern Virginia area. The Fair needs many volunteers to make it a success. The Fair is fun and a great way to be involved in the community. Volunteers have fun assisting with the Fair on the day(s) they volunteer and…get complimentary entry!

A few of the ways volunteers can help:

  • Homes Tour Docents
  • Ticket Takers
  • The Mill Photography and Art Mart
  • The Corner Store
  • Beer and Wine Tent

Need a community service project for your staff? Sponsor our Local Libations Tent — pour beer, have fun and help the Foundation preserve the National Historic Landmark of Waterford.

Please consider helping at the Fair this year and in years to come. The Waterford Fair is an important part of supporting the mission of the Waterford Foundation and preserving this National Historic Landmark. The help of volunteers is much appreciated!

Did you know?

  • Approximately 20,000 visitors attend the Waterford Fair annually, many returning year after year.
  • A 2014 survey conducted by Visit Loudoun indicated that 65 percent of visitors to the Waterford Fair come from Virginia. Of those, 75.9 percent are women; 41.8 percent have college degrees; and 68 percent are day-trippers. Each spends an average of $337.11 on food, wine, events, shopping, and fuel.  Those who spend the night spend an average of $1,042.22.
  • They represent a huge pool of potential customers for your company—thousands of young families and high-end buying public interested in the Fair’s quality traditional crafts, historic homes privately owned which are open only once a year, and interactive history lessons about life in an early American rural village.
  • A four-time winner of Loudoun County’s Event of the Year by Visit Loudoun, the Waterford Fair provides “lasting benefits to the community…and the generations of overnight stays and effective promotion to out-of-county visitors.”

All day Saturday, meet members of Female RE-Enactors of Distinction (FREED) and the African American Civil War Museum, who bring to life at the Second Street School such real historical figures as …

Hattie, a pre-Civil War enslaved woman who speaks of the sorrows of her homeless-family-less life, “rented” to multiple owners;  Major Martin Delany, distinguished Civil War officer, abolitionist, journalist, physician, writer, and one of the first African Americans to be admitted to Harvard Medical School;  Frances Anne Rollin, author of the first known Southern black woman’s diary and of Life and Public Services of Martin R. Delany, the first full-length biography written by an African American;

Elizabeth Taylor-Greenfield, born a slave who became the world renowned singer known as the Black Swan; Charlotte Scott, who as a freed woman dedicated herself to raising the funds from other newly freed slaves to build the Freedman’s Memorial or Emancipation Statue, in honor of the Friend of Negroes, Abraham Lincoln, which stands in Lincoln Park, Washington, D.C. today;  Hallie Quinn Brown, a great elocutionist and educator, who spent three decades as a professor of elocution at Wilberforce University.

FREED’s mission is to educate the public and to promote the accomplishments of the African American Civil War Soldiers and women who supported their fight for freedom. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the African American Civil War Museum in Washington, D.C. features a rich collection of artifacts, documents, primary sources and technology to create a meaningful learning experience for families, students, Civil War enthusiasts and historians about the period from the American Civil War to Civil Rights and beyond.
